I have a Seagate Backup Plus 1TB Hardrive and I have been trying to transfer files from it but when I connect it to my PC it works fine at the beginning but suddenly, the laptop won't recognize it anymore.

When I try opening some files, the PC hangs and it only turns back to normal when I disconnect the HD or when I turn the PC off.

What should I do? I really, really need those files.

Things you should know:
>My friend accidentally dropped the HD a few months ago
>I don't hear any sounds when I connect it and it still has it's light on
>I don't know why but when I run a scan for viruses it hangs in the middle
> Disk check doesn't seem to work on it

I would appreciate any help. Thank you very much.

I would appreciate any help. Thank you very much

Solution
Hi there pierrot28,

In case the drive is physically damaged, you will not be able to retrieve the data with some software tools. In this case, you will need to contact some data recovery company. Most of the HDD manufacturers offer data recovery service or have some sort of data recovery partners.
Apart from that, you can try something simple as just connecting the drive with another cable to a different USB port. If the issue persists, you can try some data recovery tool for DOS. Many users try the Ubuntu Live CD approach in cases like this one. Check this out: https://www.google.bg/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=data%20recovery%20for%20dos

Hope this will help,
