I need a new GPU! I don't care if it's old/used! As long as it's not a damn 750 ti.

Alright, so I've been attempting to survive with the card, but it's too much. The 750 TI is possibly the worst purchase I've ever made. I've had it over a year now, and it's been nothing but limitations. My rig started out with an i3, 8gb ram, 500w PSU and a 7950, but the 7950 was faulty so I sold it, took the proceeds and bought that card. The dang thing can barely play games on medium settings @1080p>38fps. It's so bad, I had to dust off and plug in my 900p monitor to get semi-playable frames. I thought it was my i3(old thing is still going strong) holding me back, so I upgraded to a new Quad core and it's made things even worse. While my CPU is chillin' at 62%, the card has gone to 99% usage and 1877mb memory on Skyrim 23-36fps medium&high settings (with no AA) @1080p. I have to knock the res down to 720p to get into the 40s. And now it's displaying artifacts. Anus has cleared me to send it back for repair/replacement, so I've decided to sell the repaired/replacement card. Is there a GPU I could buy that could help me out? My budget is set to something <$190(and not a 750 ti or a 760/960). Thanks for reading.

The 280/7950 goes pretty much head to head with a 960, a lot depends on the game, resolutions etc as to which comes out ahead.
You can OC a 280 to almost 280x speeds and performance, which is considerably higher than a 960 at 1080p, but even a good OC on a 960 won't bring it up to beat a 280x performance.

Either way, for gaming either a 280 (my personal preference for AMD cards in this range) or a 285 (the replacement for the older 280 but has 2Gb of vram vrs 280 3Gb, so doesn't take advantage of Mantle making it useless in my book) or a 280x, will blow the doors...

I've been eyeing some GPUs on eBay, and I was thinking of buying a 7950 used, but then the prices of almost all used GPUs suddenly went through the roof. (for example $120 for a 7950 to nearly $200. 280 from $140 to $220) I find GTX 670s for $110-120 on there.. are they worth it? Would It be a sizable upgrade?

I use a Sapphire R7 265 duel fan that I was lucky enough to find on E-Bay new for 100.00 delivered from someone who just didn't need it,..
I run it with a I5 2400 and it has no problems running TES 5 at 60fps in open world,.1920 resolution 1080p,..its not real big and your PSU should be able to handle it,.they go for 150.00 range on other sites,..
The reviews for it are outstanding and its rated very high for a "Bang for the Buck" GPU

My 2 cents,.

I can't afford to spend too much money.. that's why my budget is so low.
Aren't the 280 and 280x cards just rebrands of the 7900 cards?
280 = 7950
280x= 7970
What is a 285? I find those new for $180
I only find 280s for $170 used, but I can find 7950s for $110.
There's nothing wrong with buying used. I bought a few GPU/motherboards used and I've only had one bad egg. Besides, if there were to be an issue, I could just report it and send it back to eBay/Amazon within 30 days and get my money back.

I'm not looking to buy a card that's in the same league as the one I currently have.. that would be a sidegrade.

I didn't really realize it at first, but it was too late. I had already fallen for the 'hype' and refunds weren't offered.Also, you can't put a 750 ti in SLI. I looked online and the 280 costs more than $200. I'm not looking to spend that much. I saw some 960s for $190, but looked at some benchmarks and it's weaker than a 7950.

I know that the GPU prices of the 7950 always fluctuated, because they were commonly used for bitcoin mining, but they aren't much use now. I would agree and say that the R 270-290's are your best bet. Very affordable, especially if you know where to look. (Slickdeals is good) And you will have no issues running them at 1080p, nearly every game, max settings.

Your best solution would be Craigslist. They have tons of cards for sale that should fit into your budget. If you go for an AMD card, don't get anything less than a 280 or 280X if you want better performance. If you go for an NVidia card, then you'll need at least a 960.

Budget as stated by op is <$190. Only the 280x broaches that. As far as original price goes, there are ways and means around that, I buy gift cards from my kids all the time when grandparents send them for birthdays, Christmas etc. They work just fine at the gas pumps and don't require me to stand in the store like cash does.
