Hie everyone, im upgrading from a sandybridge g860 pentium dual core to a quadcore as the games that i play recommend a quadcore for optimum gaming.

Which one do you recommend between 3470 and i7 3770? is the i7 that good that it would be worth spending extra $50-70? Im getting either of the two used by the way. Id rather have that extra money going to extra 4gb ram or an ssd to run my OS. My current setup is a g860, 4gb ram ddr3, hd6950, 500gb 7200rpm, 450w psu.

With my dual core i have managed to play gta 4 on medium (stuttered a lot) crysis 2 on high settings, crysis 3 on low (with the occasional stutter) and now i want to play other more demanding games such as metro last light redux, watchdogs, gta 4, 5 e.t.c

which one do you recommend? im bumping my ram to 8gb too and getting ssd for running my os and system programs.

Whats your current GPU?

Most games are more demanding on the GPU than the CPU, and even the most demanding aren't going to use the 8 (virtual) cores of the i7. A four core i5 3470 should be a plenty.

I am willing to wager the greatest thing holding your games back right now is your GPU.

When i played those games i had a gtx 550 ti and the dual core sandy bridge cpu. i recently acquired a hd 6950 2Gb, which i plan on selling and getting a hd7970 or similar.

Thanks bunch. Based on benchmarks i have just looked at, id rather take the i5 and then use the $70 for a ram and ssd upgrade.
