FX-8350 temperatures extremely low?

I have a Hyper 212 Evo cooler on my FX-8350. The temperatures on this cpu idle is reading 14c, and doesn't go above 45c under full load on prime95. I've used coretemp, HWmonitor and HWinfo64 and they all read these extremely low temperatures. Ambient temperature is around 22c right now, so that idle temperature makes no sense. I've read that the AMD FX processors have inaccurate readings below 40c, but even so, 45c on full load just doesn't feel right to me. Is this normal?

Use AMD Overdrive to check the thermal margin at full load. The higher, the better; at 0°C the CPU would throttle.

As previously mentioned use AMD Overdrive to check the temps as it's the most accurate. The other monitors work well but AMD's thermals aren't accurately detected with those.

14C is 57F so unless you are keeping your rig in a refrigerator I doubt it is idle at 14C.

45C is accurate, 14C is not because of reasons mentioned above. CoreTemp and others do sometimes get the idle temps right, happend to me many times. But they will almost always be wrong readings. If your ambient temperature is 22C, your idle is most likely around 25C, my FX 6300 idle at 28C in a 25C room, and prime95 is 44C under full load. Depending on fan speed this will vary of course. I have the same cooler.

Idling at only 3°C above ambient requires a much better cooler than the Hyper 212 Evo. At idle the CPU still does some work. I also doubt the 45°C accuracy at full load when running Prime95 28.5 Small FFTs with that same cooler. I'd rather see what AOD reports.

Just ran AMD OverDrive, idles with around 53c thermal margin. Considering that the Tj. Max is 90c, I believe the actual temperature is 37c, which seems about right!

Max temperature on the FX processors is 67 C, anything above and your PC will shut down.

actually i don't think thermal margins go to Tj. Max so I think 37c is wrong. Anyways the thermal margin at full load is 25c

It will throttle or shutdown when the thermal margin is 0°C. You can't accurately monitor that CPU's temperature.

When overclocking I usually stick with the rule to not go over 60 C. Since apparently fx processor temperatures aren't accurate what thermal margin should I aim for?

They are accurate during load, but not idle. Generally people stay below 60-62, though the highest they can go is 67 C, are you able to use a infrared thermometer?

I would make sure the thermal margin is several degrees at full load. 25°C is excellent; you can overclock it higher.
