About to basically rebuild my PC, I'm adding new:

Motherboard
CPU
PSU

So how can I wipe my current OS off of my existing SSD before taking the current rig apart? I'm pretty new at complete rebuilds, I'm sure I can manage a complete reinstall and setup, just not sure how to deal with the OS.

No need to. You can wipe it during the OS install.

So just plug in the SSD, boot up and there should be a clean install/wipe option?

Hang on I'm being silly here, of course I can do a fresh install as it should be set to boot from CD first.

So just a quick question then, when first building a PC, can I turn it on with no drives connected and setup the BIOS?

Unless it is the same chipset/SATA Drivers chances are it won't boot up.

SOMETIMES!!!! You can add the drivers of the new machines, while it is still working on the old machine but unless you absolutely need this it is not recommend!!

Otherwise when you install windows from a Disk or thumb drive ect, when you go to install it it will list the hard drives. The SDD for your OS Drive just delete all the partitions (that is if there is no files that need to be saved) and then install windows. You may have to select Advanced Options on that screen to show the Delete button.

Also a quick note: IF you have any other hard drives installed it is BEST to disconnect ALL of them except for DVD Drives and ONLY have the SSD installed. sometimes windows will want to install the boot loader or other stuff on the other hard drives which you don't want. Can cause issues later on if you replace those other drives.
