I believe something is failing in my computer (GFX / HD). Help me determine!

Hello, I have been experiencing what I think are early signs of either hard drive or graphics card failure. My system info..
i7, 8gb ram, gtx 670, 2tb hd, win7

Anyhow, as of late, at random points my games start to lag and generally won't stop lagging until I reboot. The last time I played, the game 100% locked up for no apparent reason at a random time and my sound starting making robotic noises (maybe just a recurring sound loop from the game), but it was definitely different than any other lockup i've had. I had to hard reset my computer to get out of it, no task manager.

Other times, minimizing and maximizing become painstakingly slow, or booting the game takes considerably longer than it should (after a full pc restart).

The only reason I am not 100% sure its my hard drive is because during the occasional BSOD, its almost always due to nVidia drivers. My PC only seems to act up during gaming (although that is 90% what I use it for so). However, now that I think about it, the other times I've gotten BSOD errors was during the use of an audio application in which the audio driver crashed. (so maybe its just the harddrive in general) Other than that, I have not seen any artifacting or anything like that.

and finally, in retrospect, I thought I heard strange sounds coming from my speakers, however I think it was from inside my PC Case, which would lead me to believe that I am hearing the harddrive failing, but I am unsure, I have to really take note of it next time.

oh and my computer seems to be taking longer and longer to shut down.

Any info would be appreciated.

Hi there SpatzST,

I guess you can do some testing :)

- As you think that there may be something wrong with your HDD, you can just test it with some brand specific testing tool(or a third party one). The results will most probably provide a S.M.A.R.T report. In case there is something wrong with the drive, you need to back up the data stored on it as soon as possible.
- Measure your system's temps.
- Update your GPU drivers.
- Try running your system with only RAM stick at a time. You can change ports as well.

Cheers,
