I've done a clean install of Windows 7 at least 15 times over the course of a few months now. Frustratingly, The underlined WD 1TB Blue Drive decides to boycott the whole operation (disappears from Windows all together) every single time. Sometimes I just leave it as it is, other times I spend hours troubleshooting, searching forums, and losing sleep to find out how/why. The drive disappears somewhere between completion of Windows Updates and the Asus Z97-A driver/utilities installation. Ive tried different SATA ports, as well as different cables all together. Ive had 3rd parties run extensive diagnostics, never once have found any errors. 3rd party applications most time don't recognize its existence. However in the Bios and each time I re-install windows it behaves no different from any other drive. It's almost as if the drive is in RAID but with nothing triggering this action or acknowledging it afterwards.

Please leave any and all thoughts in regards to this problem. I've tried many things but will gladly do them again if it puts an end to this madness!

Thanks

Hey there, HTK!

I'm truly sorry to hear about your annoying issues with the WD Blue drive! :( Can you please share what you've already tried to troubleshoot this problem? I also wanted to ask you if you are unplugging all other storage devices before re-installing Windows on your OS drive?
I'd suggest you to try the WD Blue on another computer with a different SATA cable and see how it will get detected. (If you haven't already tried that.)
Is the drive disappearing when you are trying to access the data on it or it simply disconnects at any point, regardless of being in active or idle mode?
I'd also recommend checking the warranty of the drive here: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=E8GiRB

Keep me posted! :)
