I recently had a hinge break on my HP ENVY 15t-j100. This Eventually lead to the screen flickering and flashing grey so I replaced the chassis. When I put everything back together it worked for a day or two and then the flickering continued.

So I pulled everything back apart thinking my display cable got messed up. I got it working and put it together again I had a very fuzzy like the pixel aren't lining up right with a purple tint. So I just replaced the display cable that only fixed the purple tint it is still unreadable.

I have upgraded the panel myself from the 720p to the 1080p and it has been working great until the hinge broke. Thinking it my just be the panel I bought new on Amazon I swapped the 720p back in to see clearer but with a red tint.

I have tested it with an external monitor via HDMI and it works fine. Could it have shorted the GPU/GMA(it's an Intel HD 4600)?

If I left out something you need to know feel free to ask I have tried every combo I can to no avail I may be buying a motherboard.

I tend to doubt a gpu dying from heat in a laptop. They usually are thermal throttled and it would be burning a whole in you lap before then. He might just be working the gpu to hard or he damaged the cable going to the screen.

Sorry I haven't checked back in a while. I have just replaced the cable and it fixed the tint but it is still hard to read. I was wondering if maybe the panel was bad I am going to have it exchanged next week and see if that fixes it. If not I will start looking for motherboards. Thanks!

I am pretty sure the GPU on this laptop is contained within the chipset but I could be wrong. If it is in the CPU I need a new laptop because used 4700MQ's are insane.

I just got the replacement panel. It is still fuzzy at 1080p like completely illegible at 1366*768 it is readable still a bit fuzzy in places but passable. There is a bit of a reddish tint as well.

It works when connected an external monitor. According to Computer Science teacher that means the GPU is fine but that only leaves the motherboard as it is the only thing in between the GPU and the display any ideas?

I was afraid of that... Well I guess I have an i7 NUC now. The replacement I was looking at had a Geforce 850m anyway now I just need the $650.

$650 will buy you a better laptop used. The lenovo y50 gtx 860m is a beast and I picked mine up on ebay for $599 with best offer.

I was feeling crazy so I replaced the motherboard. I upgraded to the one with the Geforce 740m on it which involved replacing basicly every part in the laptop. But it works now. It must have shorted something in the old motherboard. Plus I can play actual games at 1080p now at like medium it is awesome.
