Hello. I recently acquired my dads old computer because he bought a new one so I figured I'd use it as a secondary computer to run Windows 7. I have some questions though. I know that if I do a fresh installation of Windows 7 I will need all of my drivers but my dads computer comes with 0 documentation and I'm unsure how to get the drivers installed. It's only a couple years old but he lost the paperwork and CD's that came with it so what's the best thing I can do? Lets say I just installed windows 7 and I'm on the desktop. There's no graphics, ethernet, or network drivers. What can I do? I am not connected via ethernet cable however I could use my network adapter and the drivers it came with right? From there could I get all of the other drivers automatically? If no how would I install them if I found them online? Is it all done through device manager?

Thanks for reading.

Is it an "off the shelf" puter (i.e dell) or a custom built ?

If store bought, download the drivers from vendor web site.

If custom build, go to each component site and d/l the drivers

Use Belarc Advisor to list ya components

To install, just run the install programs .... if zip file, then unzip and run the setup.exe file.

I'm sorry I should have mentioned it was a store bought PC, Asus to be specific. Would there be all of the drivers online for that specific model in one location? When I look it up online I can't find the exact model but I do see similar versions, would the drivers work?

@Grimwinder last time I had nothing when I installed windows 7.. even the ethernet controller wasn't working. It was a pain getting that up and running again so I'd like to avoid it.

Thanks for all of your replies.

So, how many computers are you trying to install Windows to? And how many copies of Windows do you plan to buy?

You secondary computer needs it's own copy of Windows. Your dad's PC will need it's own copy of Windows 8. Your main PC will need its own copy of Windows 7.
