Hi!
So, I have an HP Pavilion 500-023w with an Intel Core i3-3240, 8GB RAM, 1TB. It has Intel HD Graphics, which is completely worthless for gaming, which is why I'm here. Here are the full specs: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03770775

I know I'm going to need a new PSU for the new graphics card. I read on the HP support forum that the Corsair CX500 and CX600 are compatible with my computer, so I assume that either of those would be my best option (please tell me if there's something better!)

I'm a complete noob to this stuff, so I'm wondering what the best graphics card would be given my situation. Thanks in advance for helping!

You can do a couple things.
1. Grab a GTX 750 Ti (single fan card) and it will work fine on that 300w PSU.
2. Get a 500w Corsair power supply and get a GTX 960. This is a good pair for that i3 and is considerably much better than a 750 Ti.

However, I don't know how big of a case you have so the length of a graphics card could be limited. The 750 Ti may be your best bet.

The gtx 750 can get you good 1080p gaming around 40-fps maxed and the gtx 970 will provide some really mean gaming fps for 1080p. Just adding that since he said he was noob.

Ok, so length definitely shouldn't be an issue! I should be good up to 11 inches easily. Is the GTX 960 the best graphics card I can get with this system without getting bottlenecked by the CPU?

Ok, so if I wanted to play GTA V I would probably get bottlenecked. Any other suggestions? How about an R9-270x, R9-280, R9-285, or R9-280x? Oh, and I forgot to mention, I have an old HP w2007 1680 x 1050 monitor.

It could be. I understand spending so much on a card just to get bottlenecks would be irritating. If it's any consolation I can run GTA V just fine on my setup (found on signature) and I get 30-50 FPS on normal graphics, 1080p with V-sync enabled. Even while driving fast through the dense cities I can still hold a strong 30 FPS
