The reason i'm asking this is because i'm buying a custom built desktop from a friend and his case has four 3.0 USB ports. So I don't want to waste any of the ports. I will check if the motherboard has a PCIe add on.
My motherboard has a few of the 3.0 in the back and the one I installed up front.. and guess what... I don't own any devices that use USB 3.0. However, I have used that 3.0 port to plug in USB 2.0 drives but I don't really have much need of those drives anymore since any data I wanted/needed to copy... I did it wirelessly through my router to my spare computers or tablet/phone.
But I understand you... it's always nice having the latest connection... if you don't have an immediate use for it.. because you never know.
I built my computer about 3 years ago and the only upgrades I've needed/done was to the SSD and upgrading my GPU a couple of times... but I've been thinking about building a new system from scratch... but right now it's not really worth it, especially with the new Intel CPU's about to come out and with USB 3.1 scheduled to appear some time year. I think I'll wait a bit with my build.
