This is kind of an addon to my previous question but I think it's different enough to warrant a new question.
I have decided on a xeon over an i5 for my new rig and I was browsing the specs on intel and I saw it supports 1x16 pci-e. Does that mean it doesn't support SLI because I thought that was a motherboard based thing rather than CPU.
Thanks
:)

Solution
SLI support is going to depend on the board. The CPU supports 16 pci-e lanes not just 1 16x port. The board will split the 16 lanes into to 2 8x lanes if it supports SLI.

MERGED QUESTION
Question from sanderzz : "Xeon e3-1231v3 vs i5 4690k?"

Yes but for my purposes 8 threads is useful. I want a compromise between quantity of cores and gaming performance. I just need to know if it supports sli and standard ram.
