How to Physically identify the right hard drive in a multi-drive tower.

Hello,

I recently had one of my drives fail and now I am not certain how to identify which drive is which in my case. is there a way of doing this without trial and error?

Yes, I named them. However the drive i am removing was one half of a RAID 0 setup. I need to physically remove that drive now and im not sure which of the 6 drives in my tower it is.

You know if you remove 1 of a RAID 0, the entire data set is toast.

This is why you label them when you install.

Either look at the label (brand/size), or trial and error.

i have 7 drives in mine as playing about with windows storage spaces with old drives i had lying about

storage spaces is kind of similar to software raid

i put sticky labels on the drives to avoid confusion

guess you need to do trial and error by disconnecting one drive at a time as said already
