Cant access settings on cable modem/router

I am unable to access my router/cable modem settings. I have tired hard wiring with the Ethernet (light comes on showing connection), but when I enter the IP address it states that that I am not connected to the network. I have tried power cycling, but nothing has worked. Please help and thank you

You may need to reset the unit to its default settings -- usually a button on the back often in a small hole -- in order to access it at the default address, as it may have been changed.
