Hey, I have been having a problem with an old PC build whose graphics card failed years ago. Its worth noting that it hadn't been used for over 3 years before I replaced the failing graphics card with a low tier graphics card. The computer was then in a working state so I decided to upgrade most of the other parts. At this point I am unsure whether the computer was freezing or not because I only used it once to make sure the graphics card was indeed causing the failure, and that the new one had fixed the problems I had been having.

I put a new batch of RAM in the PC after this and began using the PC regularly. At this point I realized that the computer was crashing randomly. It doesn't appear to be caused by me doing anything, I mostly use it for gaming so this is when I have noticed it the most, however it has also happened while being completely idle, and doing things like browsing the web. The lights on the keyboard turn off, and if I have audio playing when it happens sometimes it will loop or just make very loud strange noises which sound like a fucked up version of a dial up modem connecting, however the PC itself does not make any strange noises. The HDD LED stops flashing and the screen is just completely frozen. I then formatted the hard drive believing this was a software issue and upgraded the OS from Windows XP to Windows 7.

I have since upgraded the PSU, GFX card, Hard Drive, CPU fan, and Case (also Monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, and WiFi dongle), yet the problem persists.. I believed the cause of the problem to be overheating due to the fact I mostly use the computer for gaming and the CPU would run under load at about 83 degrees. However since upgrading the case and CPU fan it now never reaches above 60. My graphics card runs completely cool as well.

The current PC specs are:

MoBo: Biostar TPower I45

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40GHz

Graphics Card: Sapphire AMD Radeon R9 280

Memory: Komputerbay 4GB 2X 2GB DDR2 800MHz PC2-6300 PC2-6400 DDR2 800 (240 PIN) DIMM Desktop Memory

HDD: WD 1TB SATA lll Desktop SATA Drive

PSU: Corsair Builder Series CXM 600W Modular 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX/EPS PSU

Case: Zalman Z11 Plus Midi Tower Case

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit

I am completely lost at what is causing this problem so any suggestions are greatly appreciated!! If you need any more information let me know.

Thanks

Solution
If I understand correctly you have replaced everything except the motherboard and cpu, so the problem must be one of them. If you can get your hands on either another motherboard and/or cpu you can test this to make sure.
