I just gave my pc a much needed upgrade in the graphics department replacing my gtx 260 with a 960. Since I switched out the parts the computer has randomly shut off as if it were unplugged multiple times. I saw where some said heat may be an issue but when monitoring this last time the GPU temp got up to a high of 70 C but was in the low 60s at the time of the crash. The cpu peaked at 67 C but was in the mid 50s at the time of the crash. Are these temps too high? The PSU is an older and I believe cheaper model but is rated at 1000w and hadn't given me any issues until the hardware change. I was just wondering what is the most likely problem causing the crashes.

Computer specs in case they help
CPU :Intel Core2 Q9550 quad core @ 2.83 GHz
GPU: GTX 960 2 GB
8GB DDR3 RAM
PSU: Ultra x3 1000w ATX

Do you have the right drivers?
Also that PSU is in the AVOID IMMEDIATELY section of toms hardwares' psu tier list. So I wouldn't be surprised if it outputed alot less than stated. Try swapping that out and see what happens because the 960 has a different power draw.

Yes all drivers have been updated. Yea unfortunately it is the one that came with the rig when I got it from ibuypower about 7 years ago.. I figured it being 1000w even if it pulled low it should have been enough to cover the card and it hadn't caused problems before. That being said I wasn't sure what else it could be so I thought I would ask before buying a better one.

I found the EVGA SuperNOVA 750 80PLUS B2 Bronze Certified 750W for $80 on amazon and believe it is in the second tier on the list. Is this the best bang for the buck one out there or would you recommend something else?
