Can a single GTX 970 handle 3 1080p 21.5 inch monitors?

My friend recommends that I get 1 Large 27 inch 144hz Monitor however I admire the setup look and think 3 monitors look gorgeous than just 1 single. He says that each of my monitors will get low fps on all the monitors. Is this true? I don't really care about whether the FPS can go higher than 100. My question is with a single GTX 970 can I get 60 fps or above with 3 monitors. It doesn't have to be ultra, I can stand high settings.

Solution
A GTX 970 will always have 4GB of VRAM shown on most GPU monitors but only 3.5GB of that will be usable, with the last segmented 500MB useless in gaming due to it being significantly slower. (Rarely affects in-game performance at all, to be quite honest.)

To answer OP's question, Yes.

A 970 will certainly be able to run 3 1080P monitors but in today's current AAA titles you're likely to get an average of 30FPS, But in titles aren't as GPU intensive like TF2, CS:GO and Skyrim (Provided that you don't mod too much) it will be sufficient.

Get a 21:9 monitor, it has a higher resolution and some of the perks of a triple monitor setup but it has no bezel in the middle (YAY) and will be driven easily by the 970 as long as you dont have the VRAM problem, I dont

Everyone has the "VRAM Problem", it's not just select 970's...

I've checked and I get 4GB VRAM not 3.5 so please before you correct someone dont assume they have problems, becuase I dont as it happens

Whether you notice it or not, it's still in the architecture.
