I upgraded my graphics card, installed another stick of identical ram, and installed an SSD drive. Upon successful boot, my network hardware is no longer detected. I had not reinstalled windows at this point, was just booting from my old drive to make sure everything was detected. Windows says no network hardware is detected, but whats worse, I CAN NOT install drivers. I placed my motherboards CD in and the option to install LAN drivers is blanked out. I went to the MSI website and downloaded them, would not install stating that no hardware is detected. The light on the back used to blink when an ethernet cable was plugged in, it no longer does.

Did i bust JUST THE ETHERNET port on my motherboard?? That seems incredibly unlikely. What is going on!!!

PC Spec
i7 3.5ghz
GTX 970
16gb Ram
Samsung evo SSD
Seagate barracuda (old drive)
MSI z77-g45 gaming motherboard

I've tried unplugging the SSD, and unpowering the video card (disconnected external power to card, and plugged DVI monitor into my motherboard). Neither seem to help.

any help would be appreciated.

I had the exact same issue. I installed my new GPU and all of a sudden my onboard LAN was not working. I uninstalled and reinstalled, restarted, and did everything i could possibly do.

I had to purchase a 10/100/1000 card to replace my lan :(

I did not want to RMA the mobo and be out a comptuer for 1-2 weeks.

I pulled out the motherboard 12v cable and noticed there was a wire dangling out from it. So I replaced the power supply hoping that the missing cable for some reason powered the network adapter but that doesn't seem to be the case... nothing changed. I guess its possible that I shorted it out when I attempted to power on with the wire disconnected?

My bios has onboard lan adapter enabled. I even tried resetting the bios to default. I guess im going to get another motherboard and try that.

I was going to get a new motherboard, but my i7 is a 1155 socket, and ofcourse, its near impossible to find a motherboard that will work with that now for some reason. I was going to instead consider upgrading to the 4th gen i7's and get a new motherboard, but the 5th gens are coming out soon so why would I do that. I guess im just going to get a network card.
