Hey guys, I have a small problem. Well big! I am building a pc and here are the specs to start off with then I will tell the problem.

AMD A-10 7850K
GA-F2A78M-D3H (rev. 4.0)

GTX 550 TI
some 400 WATT psu

So I am building a PC (my one I bought broke) and when I put it ll together I notice how the power supply unit makes a clicking noise, when I hold it its like a car wanting to start but will not start. The fans move but the power supply fan is wanting to move but dosent if that makes sense. Also I replaced the motherboard 3 times so dont say that its the mobo. I also replaced the PSU but nothing. I take the CPU out and everything works.. I don't understand it is all compatible do I have to intall something? I am not sure, anyways if it is the PSU can someone help me find, well recomend one for that board. Budget? Dosent matter.

Thanks

Solution

The A10-7850K APU is indeed supported, so that's not the likely cause.... If the Athlon x4 760k (or any other APU/CPU) works the only thing it would prove is that the 7850k is defective (very rare though). If you do buy an Athlon better make it a Athlon X4 860K.. the 760k is a bit slower while both A10-7850k and Athlon X4 860k are about the same.

I did but here again I guess..
AMD A10 7850K processor

GIGABYTE GA-F2A78M-D3H FM2+ / FM2 AMD A78 (Bolton D3) 6 x SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

DDR3 RAM 8GB total

GTX 550TI

Not sure brand but 400 WATT power supply

They are both plugged in and I have done so..

Check this thread on the propper PSU for the GTX 550TI... If your's doesn't meet the specifications, it would be the possible cause... I'd also suggest removing the GPU to see if that makes the computer start (on the integrated video).

By removing the CPU (APU) out, you may be reducing power requirements and that makes other hardware run... so removing the GPU (temporarily) sounds the most practical. So try that, and also double check the front pannel header connections.

If none of these suggestions help, and if budget doesn't matter, I'd suggest buying a second FM2 APU (one of the lower priced models). That would be a way to test if the A-10 7850K is the cause.
