Power supply failure after HDD install

Hey so all I've done today is install a WD Green 4 TB HDD. Initially I ran into no problems. I installed and partitioned an F drive and had no boot failures.

About an hour later I queue for a game of CS, and return too my PC off. I could not boot from both outlets or the adapter.

I've dismantled and reconnected my mobo pins, and made sure all pins are connected.

No boot.

I then removed both my HDDs Black and green and was able to successfully boot with just my SSD operating system drive. I'm assuming the problem is my PSU and that I can't apparently run two drives.

My solution after this post will be too load only my 4TB drive instead of my 1TB black and go from there until I hear feedback and look into a new PSU.

My rig:

Gigabyte Z87X-D3H
Intel i5 4670k 3.4
Asus GTX 760 2GB
PSU S12II 520 Bronze

I also have a Xonar DG soundcard, Hyper 212 EVO fan and dual monitor setup with an Asus VG248(144hz) so I don't know if this contributes too the problem in any way, or if something else is going on; either way I'd appreciate some feedback!

Solution
I have similar system and it pulls 280-300W at full load so your 520W PSU should be good. Hard disks have low power requirements, around 7-10W each (except when spinning up). My guess is that your PSU is not working properly and the addition of the 14-20W from HDDs is bringing it to it's knees.

My system: Gigabyte Z97X Gaming 3 / i5-4690K / EVGA GTX960 SSC / SSD + 2x500GB HDDs / Corsair CX500M PSU / Asus Xonar DX

Welcome to the community, Matare!

I'm sorry to hear about the issues you are encountering with your system. :( I'd go with @holyprof on this one, suspecting the PSU as the source of the issue as well. You mentioned that you plan to plug the WD Green together with the SSD until you resolve the issue. How does the system react, once you add a second drive? I'd also suggest to switch between the two secondary HDDs and make sure the system boots with either one plugged in.
Since the new power supply is not enough for your SSD and both your HDDs, I'd recommend you to check in with the manufacturer's tech support and RMA it. I wouldn't burden the system with too much workload though, we don't know what exactly is the issue with the PSU and if it could potentially damage some component.

Good luck! Hope I was helpful! :)
