as the title suggests ive been playing with voltages and tickling one or 2 settings in the bios but can't get any luck beyond 4.8,
my temps at load are 56 degrees socket and 46.5 degrees core, mb temp is 22 c which is odd as room temp is reading 23.6...

voltages at 4.8 are 1.41250 vcore and 1.17500 cpu/nb i'll add my cpu-z at the bottom
cant think of any other helpful info off the top of my head, oh other than I have an xfx xtr 750 power supply now added.
many thanks for any suggestions, FIN

Solution
in the long rung its not really worth it. i just tried to go abck to my old setting and it locked up on youtube again. i fought with this cpu for a long time and it simply wont go over 4.8, honestly 4.8 is just fine.

dont worry my 8320 actually overclocked better than my 9370. i have my 9370 @a hair over 4.8 @ 1.56v
bump your voltage to 1.5 and try to go higher.

what is you blck? 200? any cpu on my board hates 200 i generally run in the 230-236 range. i can get it to 5ghz+ but cores will still drop out even when bumping the voltage to 1.65 etc with every bclk imaginable . you still have some room to go.

Hey Fin1977,

Its possible you hit the wall of the maximum speed that chip can run at. Some of these chips OC pretty high.. some really don't want to. Its the same story with my dads 8350... it just hates anything above 4.7Ghz. My X4 955 hated anything above 4.0 it would also give me that failed cpuz verification with the x in the middle of it.

Maybe someone else can actually help you with this... but my honest opinion is that this chip maybe be maxed out UNLESS you wanna try higher voltages that might stabilize it... if you are one of those willing to take the risk..

I can't pass 10 mins on occt without freezing on 4.9 temps get to 58 and level out at around 4:30 it just locks the screen,
Not willing to push past 1.45 due to it jumping another .02+ at load... I like my setup lol and don't plan running it 24/7 beyond 4.5, will run it 4.8 as and when I wanna test it tho or run certain programmes but it really doesn't feel any faster.... Just louder fans ;-)

The only other issue my PC has apart from needing a gfx card upgrade is my hdd threw up a fault on boot up not sure wether it is likely to cause issues with stress testing but doesn't affect normal running, I'll retest again when I have my ssd in and maybe quicker ram and a decent gfx card, now I'm just left with the tough decision of choosing best answer....

although this answr didn't solve my issue it did put a stop to me trying for now at least thus saving my system, I probably will attempt to clock the voltage above 1.45 at some point but ive not even finished building yet and I'm pretty much a novice with overclocking too, so ill read more understand more functions within the bios and maybe try again once im built complete but I was happy a week ago running 4.5 so that's where ill stay until I'm more confident it can stay stable 24/7 at 4.8
thanks to you both for the replys it helps a lot to have such knowledge at my fingertips

My honest advice to you is you don't realistically need to overclock that high. Especially for gaming. You will see a bigger improvement with newer/better/upgraded graphics than overclocking your cpu 0.1Ghz - 0.3Ghz higher. Thats a couple hundred megahertz faster... wont make a giant difference in most things.

Overcloking that cpu any higher could at some point kill it and you'd have to replace it with something... and I believe that money would be way better spent buying a better graphics card/a second graphics card, ram, or an SSD even (LOVE SSDS!)

well certain games I play only use 2 cores etc so clock speeds do help a little bit. going 200+ mhz isnt going to net you 100 fps though. its usually a few fps or so depending on the game etc going from 4ghz to 4.8 will give you a decent fps bump
