So I plan on making a HTPC for my living room this summer. Never done this before, and just wanted some feedback.

My main concern, is reducing the amount of remotes I use. This just isn't for convenience for myself, but for friends and family who want to be able to easily be able to watch a movie, netflix, tv or, PS3, with minimal fuss.

Is there any good set up recommendations for ease of use? Such as a good universal remote that can handle TV's and PC's, and navigate through Windows perhaps? Also, is there a Blue Ray/DVD drive you can install in a PC that can be controlled via universal remote of some kind? I've been doing some research on the Logitech Harmony, and that seems like something that would be ideal. I understand most remotes like this won't run for the PS3 though, at least that's what I've read.

But again, I've never done this before, and want as much feedback as I can before I start. So, any tips, advice, etc is appreciated.

If you are using MCE , and the pc is on a network , you can use an app to turn your phone in to a remote .
definitely with Windows phone and android , but probably iOS too

If you are installing a tv card it will usually ship with a remote anyway and that remote will play dvd's , and give you all the TV functions

If I use a TV card and its remote, will it allow control over the kind of devices a universal remote can do, including soundbar/speakers? Again, newb at this so if I'm asking dumb questions that's why.

By Media Center, do you mean just Windows Media Center, or any kind of media center-type software?
