hello i recently bought a new gigabyte gtx 970 g1 gaming i already have an amd a-10 6800k
(psu:HKC 550W)
i knew it will bottleneck but i got the gtx 970 for unrefusable price (money equal to 220$)

im thinking about upgrading the cpu to remove bottleneck but every game runs maxed and i want to know what performance improvement will i see if i upgrade my processor to an i7-4790k I game at 1440x900 (i dont want to improve it till it gets broken) i want 30fps (bcs my xbox play games on 30fps)

the games i play may include heavy cpu using games (i dont realy know) starcraft 2 skyrim but im not going to mod it and all assassins creed (i already finished crysis 3 so i will not play it on this computer)

if i wont see major improvements i will just buy a ps4 (it is almost the same price as the i7-4790k)
thanks for your help

Solution
Nip this thread in the bud.

1. Pointless changing your CPU if you're happy with 30fps.
2.Anyone who recommends a 960 4gb over a 970 is an idiot.
3. The 970 vram issues don't really exist - been blown out of all proportion.99% of the people who complain don't even own one.

i know i will have to change motherboard thats not an issue since mothgerboards are cheap ;) but the i7-4790k cost 3 times the a10-6800k where does the money go? because thats a lot of price difference between the two

sure thoes games will get optimalized for ps4 still?
and the difference between the a10 6800k and the i5 4690k is enough to give up the ps4?
thank you guys for helping

The majority of games are optimised for console because the hardware remains the same over its lifetime, whereas PC optimisation is sometimes sub-par. You could argue that the variety of PC hardware makes optimisation more difficult, but personally, I think it's down to lazy developers or publishers. There have been plenty of games which play well on both PC and console, so the hardware argument goes out the window.

In a word, yes, particularly if you aren't interested in PS4 exclusives. Just remember that you'll need a Z-based motherboard to overclock and the processor you want is the 4690K, not a 4790K. Also bear in mind that Intel's new Skylake processors will be using a different socket, so buying Haswell now will compromise future upgradability.

Here is a suggestion, not sure kf you need a cpu cooler but a h100i is good if you can afford it, or a hyper evo 212 is also good and very well priced.

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($229.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-SLI ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($113.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $343.98

Edit: if your talking about being able to upgrade to skylake there is no boards out that support the new socket, the board linked here supports broadwell if it ever releases.

i suddenly realised that lots of people complain about the gtx 970 being faulty or what they say it has some vram roblem 3.5 +0.5 slower or what im starting to worry i thought with 220$ for a 400$ card i won the lottery but now im starting to worry is it faulty or will i be ok?

wont the now motherboards with 1151 (and new processors) be expensive as hell?

I would likely just grab a 4690k and not wait for the minimal performance increase from skylake. Who knows what the prices will be like and when they will actually be released, people have been waiting a long time now for broadwell.

when is it released? before the end of the summer? if before 1st of july i will wait for it and see how it performs and what it costs ;)

also i will play games lan with my brother he has a laptop with i5 and intel hd 4000 + 4gb ram i want to play the games he can in silent mode with the gigabyte gtx 970 g1 gaming is the difference between the two gpus enough for my gpu to not turn on the fans?
Games: star wars battlefront 1 starcraft 2 starcraft 1 dark sector crysis 1

also 3.5gb vram thing i want to max textures in all games i play (other settings are not so important like msaa) and i will play 1440x900 on this computer will my games eat up all vram? (i dont mind 30 fps i like playing on that but plz not less that 20fps that kills the fun :( )
