Hi,
I had a problem with my External Hard drive. Whenever I went to open a certain folder, I was told that the directory is corrupted and unreadable so I went to search for a solution on the Microsoft support website, I was told that I should open the 'run' from the start menu and run the chksdk utility. Unfortunately, after it was done. The files were gone though the space was still being occupied

Hey there, Mehrez!

It seems like chkdsk might have hidden your files. I'd suggest you to try to UN-hide them using this tutorial: http://www.wikihow.com/Unhide-Folders-in-Windows-7
I'd also advise you to run your external HDD manufacturer's diagnostics tool to check up on the health and SMART status of the drive. You should be able to find a link to the software on their website.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted!
