Hey guys,

I just grabbed a Dell optiplex 780 sff, 4gb ddr2, 3ghz intel core 2 duo, and 160gb hard drive with windows 7. I am on a budget and I am interested in eventually building my dell optiplex, part by part, into a functional gaming pc. Eventually, I would just have an entirely new computer. I was thinking first I would buy a new case and psu so I would have room to upgrade the rest of the system. Let me know what you guys think about this idea and if it would work.

Thanks!

Your idea does not work. I just did the similar upgrading on the optiplex 960 sff for my friend. When you open the case you will see the PSU has the small 24pin header, and the mini SATA power cable so that you are hard to find the right PSU, also you can't just move the whole thing into the new regular PC case too.

If you want use the PC for games, you need to save more to build you own pc or get either MT format. Right now all you can do that is to buy the GPU, GT730 or other low power consumption video card. I installed one low profile format GT730 into my friend optiplex 960 sff. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133542
