Hi,

My current gaming rig is starting to slow down and some crashes have occurred recently :??:

I was looking for some advice from all of the knowledgeable people here since I'm very new to building computers.

Some things I'd like to include: i7 processor, 256GB SSD, GTX 980, 1-2TB memory, 8GB RAM (which is enough for any game I've read?) and liquid cooling with a tower that allows plenty of airflow and cooling.

Thank you very much for your help!

Here is a good build within your parameters. I chose the H100i for liquid cooling because it is a great all around cooler and is at a great price right now. I also decided on the Phanteks Enthoo Pro for your case because for $100 this is probably one of the top choices for liquid cooling and airflow due to a great inside design and its size allowing for more space for circulation.

Instead of going with a I7, I changed to to the Xeon which is really close to a I7 (4C/8T) and the Xeon 1231v3 is a 3.4 (TB 3.8) which fits into your budget.

I have had my current rig for over 2 years and it's a little outdated all around. I'm looking to upgrade to a new rig because my current one is maxed out for what it can accomplish at them moment.

I've read a lot about all of these components and I think that I like everything about it. Do you agree that 8GB RAM is plenty? Some of my friends are huge on 16GB RAM, but all I've read is that games do no require that much.

8gb of ram is more than enough if you are just gaming, most games dont even come close to 8gb and in the majority of cases even 4gb is enough, but that is cutting it close.

The only time where 16 would be nice is if you are streaming or video editing where you have multiple taxing programs open at once, but if you just have a game and a web browser along with some other random apps open you will be perfectly fine with 8gb
