I am having a problem that when someone in my home is downloading anything all the internet speed is consumed by that person and other members are not even able to access the internet.:pt1cable:

I want to know is there any thing that can help sharing the internet speed mutually to every person connected under my network?

I have a netgear JNR1010 wifi.

Thanks!:)

Solution

Login to the router's admin page and play around with the QoS settings (page 41 in the manual).

QoS lets you prioritize traffic based on a variety of criteria. I assume by "downloading" you mean filesharing? That's usually the culprit. You find what filesharing programs are being used and what ports it uses, then assign those the lowest priority. Give web browsing (ports 80 and 443) medium priority. Give essential network protocols like DNS (port 53) high priority.
poor bandwidth could be your provider ?? there good at claiming you pay for x amount but you really end up with a whole lot less can come down to the distance between you and there hub the lines used and there quality right down to your getting ripped off by them overall ??

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bandwidth_throttling

lok around for test you can run ???

I use verison and its no better for me in this rural area sold as 4g but I yet to see it so its put up with it or dial up 56k that's all I got here in the sticks

satellite blows chunks here and costs more

''if your router has QoS capabilities, you can set the bandwidth allocation such that one person will not be consuming all of the bandwidth at once. ''

so you limit the bandwidth between the users and your providers service in bandwidth low or poor to start with you now bogged things down more ??

where will this help ? ya you now may do 2 things at once but at a restricted/slower rate ??

regardless its only going to do things at the best the provider allows to you to use .. if you don't have the bandwidth to start with all the settings in the world cant overcome that

also with windows 7 and up things changed regarding QoS as well [Microsoft strikes again ] so is it now based on windows new way and that's just too bad ??

http://www.fedtechmagazine.com/article/2010/04/boost-network-performance-windows-7-qos

I do know my XP and vista rigs do better online ???

theres a Microsoft ''fix it'' deal that will speed things up [ maybe ] seemed to for me so far ??

If only one person is using the bandwidth, then QoS will not affect him no matter what he does (other than a reduction in max bandwidth of a few percent).

If two people are both trying to use all the bandwidth, QoS will allow the higher priority data like Skype sessions to get first shot at the bandwidth. The lower priority app can take what's left over. This prevents a situation where a non-critical task like downloading Windows Updates can cause real-time tasks like video conferencing to become unusable. It's not just blind restricting/slowing down traffic across the board by the same amount. It's slowing it down in a manner you choose to minimize the impact it has on real-time tasks like video, voice calls, and games.

as said not enough bandwidth to handle the load -- like when my buddies and I lan party and not gaming we all on line at his house in the same room doing what ever we do liker my buddy 1 looking over at newegg my buddy 2 playing music on you tube wile I am at hulu watching something and all works well with his cox cable service all in real time as you call it

my old att dsl could but may see some slowdowns where his did not this crap I got here today is more like what the op claims cause in the sticks all I can get it 56k dile up or this cell phone internet [it does suck but far better then 56k dialup ] so it comes down to your provider and what he is giving you to work with

all you say above my be good in a office environment with 15 -25 computers or devices , but if his home service was worthy there should be no issues for what he claims to be doing at all .

Talking to them rather than technology is the better way to handle this.
