I'm building my first gaming rig and I have a few concerns, I want to build it right the first time, and I can't really tell what parts are good and what is not.

pre-built pc: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Kk2f4D

Note: I already have a 1 TB hard drive, and a CD drive thingy, that's why you don't see anything there.

I don't know what resolution I want because I use a Vizio 23 inch t.v. that I believe gets 720p, but I do want ultra high settings and full screen for the games I want to play.

Games I play:

- spintires

-BeamNg.drive

-Black Ops 2

-MW3

-Battle Field 4

-America's Army: Proving Grounds

-Need For Speed: Most Wanted

The R9 280 does support DX12. It is GCN, all GCN wil support DX12.

That is a pretty sweet deal. It is a bit over the $850 mark but a R9 290 Tri-X from Sapphire should play most games decently.

Plus it comes with GTA V and DIRT Rally for free. Not a bad deal at all.
Ha ha.... CD Drive thingy..... That's good.

It looks pretty decent. You could go a bit higher on the GPU end if you want it to last a bit longer. The R9 280 is pretty much a HD7950 so it is a bit outdated by now and with games no supporting higher resolutions ( a lot in the 4K range) it will soon not be able to max games out.

Yeah I know... I drew a blank on what it was called and I was in a rush so that's why I put that. Then right after I submitted it, I remembered the name but then I got busy. Never going to tell my friends that one, they would never let it go

Sounds worth it, thanks!

There's a potential issue the 200R case and R9 290 GPU.

The Corsair 200R ATX Mid Tower Case supports video cards up to 430mm long, but video cards over 300mm may block drive bays. Since the Sapphire Radeon R9 290 4GB Tri-X OC Video Card is 305mm long, some drive bays may not be usable.

bacon4life, the stock CPU cooler may be perfectly fine for your needs, but if you were planning on getting an after market cooler, you didn't list one.

Best of luck with your build and have fun!

So what your saying, if I do get an after market cooler,, the R9 290 wouldn't fit? Or it wouldn't fit at all. But hey thanks for bringing up the concern. I'm going to measure the case and compare it with the card.

Maximum GPU length is 420mm (16.5 inches). The R9 290 Tri-X is 12.01 inches. The case will be fine for that GPU.

bacon4life, the aftermarket CPU cooler wont make any difference which GPU you can get. He was just stating that you didn't list an aftermarket CPU cooler and assumes you are planning on using the stock Intel cooler.
