Only thing left to consider is an aftermarket air cooler and a case. I will reuse the HDD and Disc Drive from my old PC.

So What do you think of this potential build?

Solution
Knocked you £4 off - dragged a 240gb ssd & a 280x in for that too + a 8320 (irregardless of what people tell you its easier to overclock than the e series as its fairly certain to push 4.2ghz on stock voltage)

The gigabyte is a better board than the msi full stop - the msi looks nicer but thats it.

Ignore me if you like but its a better priced, better performing build.

How much budget wise for the case & cooler??

Im set on AMD, especially the FX series, cant argue with the cost cosidering what they can do. And the 8 cores will pretty much handle anything i could throw at it. Im going to be using this Rig when i go to Uni this year so Gaming, Art software, 3d modelling, General use and now i cant live without having multiple tabs in Chrome. lol

I understand Intel chips are better at Single threaded performance and any program or game that relies heavily on Single or dual cores will perform better. But the way things are changing with programs and games being made to take advantage of Multi-threading and using 4,6 and 8 cores more now days, dont forget DirectX12 as well.

I am open to suggestion, just i only ever hear about Intel from fanboys and i have 2 friends who are just pro Intel. It really annoys me sometimes because they completely dismiss anything you say because its not an Intel CPU. anyway, yh im open to suggestion and its always good to learn anything new.

I only used PCpartpicker for the compatibility and wattage needs. I can buy all the components for less then what they have listed. so pricing isnt an issue.

Is that Mobo you suggested actually good? what features does it have and how is it compared to the MSi 970 G. Because the MSi board is packed with features normally associated with Top tier boards and it has High Quality Audio system built in that can do 7.1, so i dont have to mess around with buying a soundcard.

Ultimately i would just like a rough idea of how my potential build would perform. I havent gone ultra budget, CPU and GPU should work well together, Any Good RAM will work just fine, DUal channel and i can always buy more RAM later on. Mobo has more than enough features and the styling is a bonus. PSU is more than enough for the current components, will allow me to OC in the future and i could even get another R9 280 and crossfire those two bad boys together. SSD doesnt really matter too much, most perform similar but i know not to touch the Kingston V300.

I thought this would be pretty decent for an AMD build, must admit ive spend the past 2 weeks just researching, checking reviews, benchmarks, user experience and vids of real world performance. The last thing was to find good prrices and i have that sorted now.

i can buy everything but the GPU, i will wait until after the GPU conference because im sure we will see some price drops. The R9 280 is already sitting at the sweet spot but im interested in seeing what Nvidia and AMD bring to the table with the new GPU's.

What you're looking at is between high & ultra for gaming.
Bear in mind to get a constant 60fps any fx chip needs really to be running at 4ghz minimum.

The 280x would push you closer to ultra & is worth the extra £10-20 for that reason.

Regarding the boards - the 970 gaming,ud3p & m5a97 r2 are all decent 970 mid budget boards.
I defy anyone using less than at least a grands worth of audio equipment to even argue they can tell any difference.
They all do 7.1 high quality audio - where the ud3p wins is in its voltage regulation & power delivery.
Used all 3 boards - when it comes to over clocking the gigabyte wins hands down - its possible to hit big over clocks on less voltage (hence lower temps) than either of the other boards.

When you come to the ssd - you honestly don't need a kit - all 3 of those boards come with 4 sata cables in the box .
Most decent cases will have at least one or 2 2.5inch/ssd drive bays.

Cooling wise look at the themis,£20 & outperforms the 212 evo.

Fair enough about the surround sound. Im just so used to my Sony Wireless Stereo headset, up to 7.1 virtual surround if the game has that, its a great bit of kit had it for 3 years now, works natively with the PS3 and 4, just plug in the USB dongle, it also works on any laptop and PC but you have to adjust it yourself and it all depends on the source. Most games should have DTS, Dolby or 5.1 at the very least.

I was aiming for high/Ultra on 1080p. Im not going to be playing or watching anything over that resolution or quality for at least 5 years. 4k isnt commercially viable yet and almost nothing is 4k natively except games that support it. Id rather get a 4k or UHD TV for that purpose in the future. I game mostly on Console's anyway, PS3,4 and a Vita so i already have my gaming needs covered. PC is just for the RTS games mainly and the odd game.

So i figured that the R9 280 is a sweet spot for me GPU wise, its got more than enough power for games, art software and 3d modelling.

Thats good to know about the motherboards, i looked into it and another user on Tomshardware sent me a link that has all AM3+ Mobo's in a Table. Was very useful. I could get a 990 Mobo but i thought thats just overkill for my needs.

Didnt realise the Mobo's came with cables, most people say SSD's have the SSD and nothing else in the box. I can get the HyperX 3k with upgrade kit for £55 new. So i will get the CD with software, cables, mounting bracket and other things.

I was looking at the 280x, i couldnt work out why it costs more. Its older than the 280's. but after some digging around and alot of ppl recommending the 280X, I will pick it up. Its £169 for the MSI R9 280X. £10 for even more performance. why not. lol

I wasnt sure about coolers, is the Themis a Raijintek? A few ppl have recommended that brand but their seems to be no reviews around so i wasnt sure. Its Red so that a plus, will fit nicely with the rest of the components. Function is my 1st priority, I always say Substance over Style but that Themis does both.

Thanks for the help, greatly appreciated, im going to buy the PSU now before my offer expires.

One more thing, Can you recommend a case. I have seen some nice functional mid towers for around £30. the cooler master K350 looks very appealing.

:pt1cable:

The k350 is OK - decent cable management ,decent cooling ( you need to add a rear 120mm exhaust though)

I always point to the z3 plus on a budget
http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/search/?cc=us&q=zalman+z3

Mainly because its unbeatable value for money - 4 fans included (retail for £6 each seperately).
Which means the actual case is about a tenner.

Decent though, good cooling, plenty of room - plain looks though .
It has a diagonal split 1/2 windows which hides any cables you cantbkeep tidy & just shows GPU & CPU/cooler & ram - Personally like this idea.

BTW - the 970 gaming comes with 2 sata cables, the other 2 boards come with 4.
