FX-9590 STILL Causing System to Freeze

My system has Windows 8.1, 8gb of ram, a 1TB hard drive, a EVGA GTX 970 FTW, a FX-9590, and a 1300w power supply.

The issue I'm asking for your help on is my 9590. Whenever I run a stability test or the CPU tries to use turbo core to overclock itself the system freezes. At first I thought it was a cooling issue, so I bought a water cooler for the CPU but it continued to freeze. Then I thought it was a PSU issue as the CPU uses a lot of power so I bought a 1300w PSU, sadly the issue still remains.

I don't believe my mobo to be the issue either as it is was designed with this CPU in mind. I've replace almost everything around the CPU and the problem will not go away. I'd hate to think that it's the CPU itself because I've already had it replaced once because the first one crashed my system during start-up.

So please if anyone has any help to offer please do so. I've spent a lot of money trying to get this CPU to work and I'm out of ideas on where the fault could be.

My system has Windows 8.1, 8gb of ram, a 1TB hard drive, a EVGA GTX 970 FTW, a FX-9590, a EVGA SuperNOVA 1300w PSU, and a GIGABYTE 990FXA UD7 mobo.

Check the voltage on your CPU. Make sure it isnt too high or too low. Also, couldn't you just disable turbo clock speed if that's the case? 5GHz is plenty for all your needs, you shouldn't need a boost beyond that if its causing you trouble.

For the time being I have turbo core disabled, which locks the CPU at 4.7 GHz. The whole selling point of this CPU was the clock speed and overclocking capabilities. I would very much like to use it. Also, is there a way to reset the voltage to make sure that it's not too high or low?

disable the turbo core and manually set the max clock to 5.0. Turbo core can throw the fx processor for a loop sometimes, my 8150 could get to 4.8 stable withouth turbo core but only 4.6 with it on. It was really weird but im thinking the sudden jump in voltage and frequency would just throw it off.

Do you know how I would go about doing that in AMD Overdrive? I know it's an option is CCC but I don't think that will work because I don't have an AMD GPU. In Overdrive I have options that look like this: http://grab.by/Hgm0

Yeah AMD Overdrive had an option in the settings that reset it, I also reset my BIOS to its optimized defaults to make sure.

god don't use amd overdrive. Ive never had good luck with it and seems to do more harm then good. Im going to guess the ud7 bios is very similar to the ud3 I have and if so it so easy to bios overclock its not even funny. Find out what voltage it is at when at 5.0ghz and set the cpu voltage to that and just change the multiplier to get you to 5.0 from the 4.7 its normally at and you should be fine. You may actually be able to run a little less voltage this way and save on heat, or the opposite can happen where maybe your instablility is caused by not enough voltage where you can do a small increase which will cause a little more heat but then be stable as can be

For some reason the BIOS is locked, as in I can't change any of the options and they're all set to"auto". I'll have to play around with it a bit to see why it's locked and If I can unlock it but I think finding the proper voltage is going to be difficult as the only way to see what it is at 5 GHz is to raise the clock speed and that causes the system to freeze. Here's a picture of the BIOS (not my BIOS but the setup is the same) for reference: https://i1.ytimg.com/vi/WnBSNfmiXng/hqdefault.jpg

the settings you need to mess with is in the first tab M.I.T. then pretty much its just a pretty version of the video I sent you...and that's with a fx 8150 so the values will be different just search for what the 5.0 ghz voltage is google shoud have it

I don't want to be a debby downer, or "that guy" but why don't you return the 9590 and get an 8350? You have an excellent cooler, a beefy power supply and a motherboard rated for the 9590 so you'll be able to overclock the snot out of the 8350. I know the 9590 is cool and all but it just runs so hot out of the box and I've seen so many people having problems with them.

I actually had a 8350 in my system for about 2 years but I got bored with it. Since I had an AMD mobo and the 9590 was top of the line and only $200 I went ahead and bought it. If I had known at the time how unstable the 9590 was I probably would of stuck with the 8350. Plus I do still have the 8350 but I would hate to have to resort to using that instead.

I went into the BIOS and did a few things:
1. I forced Turbo Core off because it was still on in the BIOS.
2. I raised the clock to 5.0 GHz
3. I raised the voltage to 1.5
When I applied the settings and restarted everything seemed fine. But the second I tried to open my browser the system froze. The CPU's stability seems to get worse the higher the clock is.

Hey that makes perfect sense, glad you have the 8350 to revert back to if you must. I guess your only option now is to sell the whole lot of it and buy an i7-4790K and an Z97 board xD lol

Excellent power supply, so that certainly isn't the cause. I am guessing you will just have to play around with the settings until you get it to work. It actually sounds like a fun challenge. I've always found AMD to be more fun for the tinkerer.

Yeah, well I would love to trade places with you. This is a challenge I've been trying to beat for almost 5 months and it doesn't show signs of letting up.
