I am looking to get a new PC and dropped into my local PC shop and here are two PC's they put together on the spot

My current setup is an intel2 laptop which just isn't cutting it.
I was a semi-professional Halo player in the past, and plan on competing in CS:GO, so performance is in my mind over running settings on high. Although I would also enjoy playing some MMO's here and there.

I will be streaming, and editing videos to post on youtube.

my budget is below $1000

intel5
http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/MVdWdC
the total here is ~$700
the quote they gave me at the store has it at $931

the second is AMD X4 860k 3.7Ghz processor, with Gigabyte F2A88XM mobo
with the same parts as the other.
this one is $800

I probably won't be upgrading for a few years, and want as little hassle as possible.
is the extra $100+ worth it for the i5?

Thanks a lot guys

Much better off building one your self as you have already noticed ($231 to put it together is bs), all it takes is some time and research, PC are very easy to build these days. I'll write up a basic build, some other people will probably come along and do likewise.

Hi, I definitely agree with you.
The problem is the building and shipping are free at this store, the items just seem to be at a steeper price where I live.

I live in Canada, and have built a PC using pcpartpicker before, but by the time I got to the checkout on each website, the price skyrocketed up $200 for shipping and handling fees.

is $930CDN steep for this build?
I was also thinking of ordering each part as they go on sale from different sites, but as I am new to this, I won't know when an equivalent part becomes available and I am afraid it may take many months using this method.

for example the motherboard at the store is $90 opposed to $75 online
And the i5 is $259 (it is currently on sale on the website pcpartpicker suggests)
p.s. I just realized the PSU isn't listed on pcpartpicker, that is an additional $55

What other local stores are there?
Are you rather Isolated?
Do you take trips to larger cities where you might be able to pick up the parts a lot cheaper?
Even with PC case gear you can select a single merchant that tends to keep postage prices down.

I live in a decently sized City, but the only PC specific stores I know of are rather small; Robotnik and Mysterbyte.
Other than that there are a few Raidoshacks, and Bestbuys around here.

I'm not sure what you mean by "pc case gear"?

Thanks a lot for the help, it's not easy helping a newb haha.

Sorry about that PC part picker, PC case gear is a store here in Australia.
The other thing to look for it stores that don't sell online, there is a great one here in Australia called MSY, you have to pick up parts from a store but they are as cheap as any of the online ones, their whole business model is move stock so it has low prices.
The problem I have with the i5 machine they have there is the GPU is very disproportionate to the CPU, the majority of video game rely much heavier on the GPU and the GTX 750 is a poor match to the CPU's capabilities.
