Overheated CPU, Computer Won't Turn On

Hello!

I hibernated my computer while running Google Chrome then after a few hours I turned it on again, I didn't open any other programs or anything, I just turned on the computer. I left the computer to eat some snacks, leaving Google Chrome the only program open since hibernation.

After 20 minutes, my mom told me that she can smell something burning (burning wire), when I went back to the computer, it was already off so I unplugged it immediately then unplugged everything that is plugged to the computer then opened the CPU tower, then I found out that the burning smell was coming from the processor (which was below the heatsink). I assumed that the computer shut down and smelled like burning because of overheating issues.

So, I removed the heatsink and dusted it out, then placed it back again, plugged everything that was plugged to the CPU back and I plugged the computer to turn it on. When I pushed the power button, the computer won't turn on! Is there something I can do to make it work?

Adding to my post, my computer is 7 years old and here are the specs:

Original Specs:

OS: Windows XP Service Pack 3
Processor: Intel Pentium Dual-Core CPU
RAM: 768 MB
Video Card: VIA Chrome 9 HC IGP Family Driver
Hard Drive/Disk: Hitachi 128GB

New Specs: (Upgraded 2012)

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
RAM: 1.5 GB
Note: Everything else is the same

Then 2014, I upgraded it to Windows 8.1 Pro

Your reply will be very much appreciated, thank you!

Solution
Sounds like your CPU literally burnt out. Those processors ran kind of warm as I recall.

After 7 years, you got your money's worth, and are overdue for an upgrade. I would not put any money into your machine at this point.

I can accept what happened to my computer, but is there a way on how I can retrieve the files stored in the computer because I'm planning to get the Surface Pro 3?

your computer could work, if we thoroughly troubleshoot it properly, then do some modifications and not to mention extract some other components....But then again, why?
Your cpu had its time, it had its great moments and achievements. It left a whole legacy behind, and now it is time for him to lay down and rest. Perhaps you could take it to Intel's HQ and ask them to recycle some of your pentium's golden pins to be put in their next Skylake lineup...That would be an honor to your veteran CPU.:ange:
