Hello,

I am wondering if it is possible for me to use an two sticks of G.Skill Ripjaw F3-2133C11D-16GXL RAM on my ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0? I had to RMA the board and it still doesn't work on return. They want me to try and get other RAM to try on the board, but I cannot afford that. I was running this kind of RAM on my computer with no problem before the board had to be RMAed. I do not see why I can not just use it again.

Anything faster than 1866mhz is unlikely to run using an AM3+ processor unless you're only using a single stick. The memory controller has issues with faster RAM and higher voltages, especially when using multiple modules. The G.Skill Ripjaws is fine if you go with an 1866mhz module.

Didn't know that, but it had been working for me and I was running two modules for almost a year before my board just decided not to work. They want me to try different RAM from their QVL (Qualified Vendors List), but I do not want to have to buy more RAM since I am short on money. I have my old ram which is F3-12800CL9T-12GBRL DDR-3 1600 but even that wouldn't make my computer go to post.

The RJ X should be fine on the mobo, should default to 1333 then should be able to use DOCP to set to something appropriate for whatever your CPU is. What CPU? and cooler? Also the 3 stick Ripjaws should also work. Will be out for a bit then back in a few hours

Are you getting any solid red lights?

DRAM Frequency doesn't matter, DDR3-2133 and DDR3-3000 RAM still defaults to DDR3-1333 or DDR3-1600. It is designed this way so RAM can boot up and work in most systems. In this case the RAM is indeed compatible, you mentioned they were previously working just fine, it is unlikely both modules suddenly became completely dead, so either something else is defective or not installed properly.

Do you have any other RAM you can test with?

I do get a solid red light for the DRAM LED
The CPU light blinks once when it turns on and then once right before the computer turns off suddenly.

I am currently waiting on new RAM that was on the QVL for the motherboard and without a doubt compatible to test and see if it is indeed the motherboard.

I currently run:

Processor: AMD FX 8350 8-core - CPU Fan is what came with it
PSU: EVGA Supernova 1000 G2 1000 Watt
Graphics: EVGA GeForce GTX 660

The CPU runs fine and stays a constant 40 degrees.
The only way for me to get to post is by pressing the MemOK button. Power button and DirectKey start the boot up but the computer shuts down right when it should post.

I changed the speed of the sticks manually and still would not boot to post after reset. I am just thinking that my board is not wanting to work correctly for whatever reason.

I am only able to post and get into the BIOS when I press the MemOK button. My BIOS are up to date I flashed them already.

I do not believe that the CPU is defective since when the BIOS are up it says that it is running perfectly fine with no problems. I am hoping it is the board and not the CPU because I am getting a replacement board sent to me soon by ASUS.

I'm running that exact board with an 8320@4.5Ghz and can tell you without reservation that the two sets of 2133mhz RAM I tried on this board would not boot without setting the clocks down to 1866mhz. I could access the bios, but could not pass POST testing.

Were you getting into the BIOS by pressing the MemOK button or the DirectKey? I got new RAM last night that was 1600mhz and off their QVL for the board and it still wouldn't POST.

Once I get it to the BIOS using the MemOK button, no it does not. It continuously goes the year January 1st, 2008

Where would I be able to get a new CMOS battery?

I reset to optimal defaults, set time and date, set memory settings as well. The settings stayed, but it still will not boot to POST. I am at a loss of what else could be the problem... I seriously just think its a defective board at this point.
