Hello all,
Having some trouble working out what i should improve my pc with...
last year i bough an amd 7950 gpu however recently im looking to improve my cpu as well as i think that this is causing a lot of lag on games. My current CPU is an old i5 650 that came with the system. Im looking into buying the i74790k and a motherboard in the next few days. currently on games such as gta and rust im have to have everything on incredibly low settings even though my gpu is alright (I know its not the best but i feel as though its good enough) hence why I am looking at buying a new cpu. Anyway do you guys think its my awful cpu causing the lag or something else? Thanks

Yes, it's the CPU, not the GPU. Game-debate.com confirms your CPU is the bottleneck, although it also says you should be able to run at medium at 1080p.

The only problem is, there's not much you can do on an old LGA 1156 platform, as that was superceded by LGA 1155, itself superceded by LGA 1150, & that's about to do a dodo impression with Skylake's LGA 1151 coming out.

For the meantime, turn down your resolution (720p, lower if need be), turn down to Medium & turn off any effects that you can. Meanwhile, start saving up for a new CPU/motherboard combo.

7950 can max most games still. Runs GTA 5 on high with decent fps on 1080p.

That i5 650 is incredibly old.

For now, make sure you ahve no mal ware, and your drivers are up to date (use the beta drivers from AMD if you are playing GTA 5)
