Dual Core Laptop vs Quad Core for Gaming?

So, I need a laptop for work and for when I'm going abroad, but I'd also like to game on it, and I have secured a quote for a laptop with great cooling, doesn't look too bulky, has an 860m and an i5 4210m (dual core), 8gb ram for £580, but for £650 I can get the same laptop but with a quad core i7 4710mq. So would there be any performance difference between the quad core and the dual core? And would the dual core run games that recommend quad cores? Also, for £700 I can also get a 120gb msata.

As far as gaming performance, I'd say that given your GPU the dual core is fine. You will be held back by the 860m more than the CPU. For reference, an 860m should perform a little below a 750Ti.

But for other general work tasks a quad-core is really nice.

Spend the extra money now, with laptops upgrading later is rarely ever an option so get as good as you can to start. If you are going to be playing games that recommend a quad, then you definitely want a quad, game companies usually underplay the requirements so if they say a quad it probably means you really do need one.

Alright thanks, should I go for a ssd? Or should I save the money and get a good quality bag to carry my camera and laptop around in?

That depends on you. The ssd will give fast boot times for the os but it won't make any difference for the games as it will be put on the hdd.
