I currently have a 290 with 15.4 drivers and i get ok fps in games. would I get better fps or more fps in games if amd had better driver support? Also why does amd lack good driver support?

This is also part of the reason some of us will buy the Nvidia card, even if the AMD card is slightly cheaper for the same performance.

Im not a fanboy, I own cards from both, but Nvidias drivers and optimizations are better and more frequent.

Yeah I own cards from both sides as well. and when i had an nvidia card there was a driver update anytime a AAA game came out or i should say everytime. and nvidia has a driver update about every month i notice and now that im using a amd card there is pretty much no driver updates i was actually supprised when amd came out with a gta optimised driver.

I have no issues with AMD driver's, sure with new titles that have nvidia plastered all over them, nvidia will have drivers at launch and it will take AMD longer because they don't work with the dev's like nvidia does on those titles. GTA V has drivers because it's not a nvidia title, the dev's worked with both camps on development. A lot of games I don't even need a driver update for them to run great, and even cf can work without a profile. Also just because nvidia releases drivers like candy doesn't mean that they work well all the time. I see lot's of issues with thew 900 series in games.

Driver support has been AMD's downfall for as long as I have known them as a brand. Any comment about improving this I will take with a pinch of salt, they are going to have to prove their commitment before I believe them.

I'm not bashing AMD as generally for the same performance they are cheaper but when new games come out and you need a new driver it can be frustrating waiting for one or by the time it comes out I'm bored of the game.

Generally, Nvidias drivers are a lot better and if there is an issue they are quick to get it fixed.

Look at project cars for example, its not a AMD or Nvidia biased game, but nvidia actually showed interest during developement and made sure it ran well on their cards, AMD barely responded (despite being given 20 free copies) and as a result the game runs like crap on AMD cards - Even though it runs well on the AMD based consoles.

Haven't played project cars so I had no idea about support with it, but with any other game I have is a non-issue. Yes, nvidia has more cash flow to use for development so you will see better driver support, but AMD's drivers are good, not great but good.
