Two GPU's without SLI support?

So, I was on the Australian PC Part Picker site because I've always loved the color green, and I found their only green and black motherboard: Gigabyte GA-G1.Sniper A88X ATX FM2+.

The board has 2 PCI slots for GPU's, but no SLI support. Is it possible to run dual GTX series GPU's NOT in 2-way SLI? Or is the board prompting me to select two completely different cards such as a GTX 780 and a GTX 480 in the same build?

Sweet, thanks! Is this the same for motherboards that DO support SLI?

It is possible to run 2 cards without SLI but:
- second card will run in x4 mode which is obviously slower but in reality shouldn't drop GPU's performance that much if any.
- you won't be able to use SLI which is the only way to boost performance of a single game running on two cards over a single/multiple monitors.

Generally if the second card is not used for some GPGPU computations then it would be quite a waste.
There are some ways to utilize that second slot but not necessarily with second high end card, some people put some cheap one's to run as a PhysX accelerator as a support for a main card.... but thats really some unique scenarios.

Yes, but if you did want to use SLI, then the two cards must have the same GPU, with the same amount of VRam. i.e two 3gb gtx 780.

I've already chosen a motherboard in my real build that I'm putting together based on quality and decent price combined corresponding to my budget, but no I am not selecting that motherboard based on it's green and black color theme. If there were more options on PPP, then I would choose a better motherboard. I am just simply seeing what I can do with the only board that is available.

I think you underestimate my knowledge a bit haha lol I know that it'll bottleneck it I was hoping when I saw the board on PC Part Picker that it was at least an LGA1150 socket but then I saw a picture and it pissed me off cause I usually don't go for AMD CPU's

2D Surround and SLi are two different options, SLi is not a requirement for 2D Surround with two cards.

Underestimate your knowledge, when you hoped a A88X board was lga 1150?... ok :pt1cable:
