I have a 16gb sd card full of pictures & music, I noticed out of the blue half my pictures and songs were gone on my phone yesterday, I realized the Sd card was showing it wasn't mounted. I tried to mount it & no luck. I used a new 64gb card I had just bought & have had no problem with the new one mounting. My computer will not read the 16gb sd card either. I have so many special pictures of my grandson on there & highly upset. I had bought a new sd card because I was almost out of space on the old one. It going out like it did out of nowhere does that mean its damaged? I have a samsung galaxy 5. Was wondering if anyone knew of any other tips that I haven't tried? I tried cleaning head with q tip & alcohol. I tried mounting many times, resetting the phone. I tried putting it in adapter & bringing it up on my computer. Nothing seems to be working. How do the cards get damaged if you never take them out? Thank you

No matter how much care you take with memory cards, their memory chips eventually become corrupted, it's just an inevitable consequence of the flash memory they are made of. That's what has happened to your card.

That's why it is essential to copy the contents of the card to a couple of hard drives as soon as possible after taking the pictures.

Leaving un-copied pictures on a card for several days or weeks when you are in a position to back them up is asking for trouble to strike --- and unfortunately for you it has struck.
