Hello,

I've been experiencing problems with my graphics card, especially relating towards drivers for it. This problem has been occurring for quite sometime now, but only recently has it been getting on my nerves and happening more constant.

When playing any game, whether it be 2D or 3D, graphic intensive or not (as in not, I mean not - Pixel type games such as "Squishy The Suicidal Piggy") . Or when I'm using Mozilla Firefox / any other browser. What simply happens is that the display goes black for a second or two, then appears again and the game/browser is completely white, not responding - I have to force close them. After that, a little notification appears saying that my nvidia kernel drivers have stopped responding and successfully recovered.

This problem randomly fixes itself, I don't know how.

I've been googling for answers for the past two days, and each answer I try does not seem to fix it.
What I've tried:

  • *Assigning the graphic card more voltage as many users were reporting that the stock voltage for the card wasn't enough to keep directx etc stable.

    *Downclock the card a little bit. (789 - 769)

*Completely uninstalling drivers and installing updated version.

*Clean the graphics card from any dust etc.

    *Restarting the PC (obviously, lol)

    *Scan for viruses using MalwareBytes.

*Unplugged all USBs cords/cables. Tried different screens and screen cables.

I have no other idea to try and fix this problem! Though I've thought to reinstall Windows, as in upgrading from 7 to 8.1 (meaning to do this for awhile) . The only other two options is either my PSU is the problem, motherboard (excuse my ignorance as I don't have much knowledge to motherboards) or the actual graphics card itself.

I've checked event viewer, and this is the error I seem to get:

Here are my computer specs:

  • *HDDs: 2x500gb , 1x 250gb
    *GPU: Gainward Phantom Pre-oced GTX 580 3GB GDDR5
    *Motherboard: Gigabyte Ultra Durable 3
    *RAM: 6GB DDR3
    *CPU: i7 1st Gen 860
    *PSU: Gigabyte 610W PSU
    *CD ROM

I have absolutely no idea what's causing this... Hope you guys can help!

Thanks.

EDIT:

I'll also liked to add that my PC also blue screens sometimes. I've also experienced the problem when taking screenshots using a program called ShareX.

I've came to the conclusion, it's my PSU.

My PSU does not have enough Amps on its 12v rails.

My PSU has 3 12v rails, all having 18Amps on each.

I've tested my card with a PSU that has a single 12v rail, with 42Amps and it works flawlessly.

Problem solved :)
