So I just upgraded to a GA-Z97X-UD3H-BK motherboard, Intel i5 4960 and got 2x 8gb - G.Skill F3-12800CL10D-16gbxl ram.

Set it up last night and wanted to add some old ram. F3-12800CL9D-4GBXL (2x2GB sticks). All 4 sticks of ram are in the Memory Support List on Gigabytes website.

Put all the ram in (2x8gb and 2x2gb) and turned the pc on, stayed on for like 10 seconds then restarted. I then took out the 2x2GB ram sticks and the PC turned on fine.

Can I not mix these 2? why wouldn't it start the first time? From reading a lot of searches online it seems like it should have worked.

One thing to check is, is your mobo dual channel and if it is, are the matching 8g sticks in the
correct slots (usually slot 1 & 3, but could vary by mobo). If not, seat them in proper
slots, but I think you just hace a plain incompatibility situation.
