Hello I have a hp p6000 series desktop with Windows 7 Home Premium.

Here is everything you need to know (hardware wise): http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02628380

It's been opening programs so slow lately. Instead of instantly opening, Google Chrome, the games I play, Microsoft Office, Windows Explorer, and just regular everyday programs like that. It's been taking about 10-25 seconds to open.

Using Core Temp. I get a minimum temp. of 72*F and a maximum temp. of 77*F at idle in a time span of 10 minutes.

From a complete shutdown and restart before it took 58 seconds (lol, that's forever to SSD) to around 2 minutes.

I checked for viruses using Avast! but nothing came up..

Could it be my hard drive? I don't know how long hard drives last but it's a 5 year old computer, and I usually keep it at idle on the main screen, not putting it in sleep mode.

Anything I can do?

It's really testing my patience. Thanks for reading

4 GB of memory is likely main reason, compounded by all the junk programs installed over time.
If you could upgrade RAM to 8GB, would likely solve the problem
Otherwise, need to disable all "update check" programs running- like Adobe Reader update, Adobe Flash update, etc, etc. All those TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident) programs use up your limited RAM - and then you're going to the page swap - using your hdd to swap memory.
Also, you can try this site http://www.blackviper.com/service-configurations/black-vipers-windows-7-service-pack-1-service-configurations/ for good advice on stopping unneeded Services
