Changing PCI Speed

Hello I am looking at upgrading my motherboard to the ASrock 970m pro3 for the newer chipset and the possibility of adding a second GPU to my machine.

Their are 2x PCI express 2.0 at x16 & x4, Is it possible to set up the board to run them both at x8?

Form what i've heard running a dual GPU setup with a x4 can be a huge bottle neck while x8 can sometimes run even better than x16.

It would be a shame if those speeds are hardwired into the Mobo, if anyone is Savvy with sort of thing I would appreciate any feedback.

I believe ASRock may have a 970 board that can split them that way, but I'm not certain, and most can't. Normally you need a 990X or 990FX chipset board to get better than x4 out of the second slot.

Well that's sad this board looked pretty promising, I guess I'll hang onto the one I got till more manufactures show small form factor some love.

You miss read the specs for that board man.
There's 2 PCI express x16 slots and a third x4 slot
The board will run both primary slots at x16 or x 8 in crossfire mode the third x4 slot is if ya run three and cards or say use a third card a a physics x card ect so shouldn't be a issue

Though to add ide recommend getting a board that supports up to 220 watt tdp processor like the 990 fx extreme 6 or theFatal1ty 970 Performance/3.1 they got I think 2 other boards that support up to 220 watt tdp processors to. Just giving ya a heads up .I case ya ever want to upgrade to faster processor ect but dose use a lot more power. But still don't mean ya can't use a Lower watt tdp processor on a am3+. Just really gives ya option if they release any new fun am3+ chips but think they all going to a am4 socket or some crap some time next year with this new and zen cores that will be coming out. As for my self I'll stick with my 990fx extreme 6 and my and fx 9590 till we see when and will finally release their new Zens and the official clock speeds and max threads the CPU can handle ddr4 ram ect for them Zens .
