Hello, I just recently built new computer. I am having this problem where when the PCI cables are plugged into the Graphics card, the computer shuts down after maybe 6 minutes. I have specifically narrowed it down to the graphics card thats causing the shutdowns. The card can stay in the slot but has to be plugged in to cause to shutdown. I cannot find out why it is doing that. I have tried 3 of the same cables and I have tried using 2 cables to power it, it just keeps shutting the computer down after start up.

Specs:
XFX RADEON DOUBLE D R9 290X 4GB DDR5 GPU
i5 4690k 3.50GHZ CPU
MSI Z97-GAMING 3 ATX Mother Board
OCZ ARC 100 SERIES 120GB 2.5" SATA III SSDef SSD
XLR8 8GB PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3 Ram

Look on the side of your PSU and make sure the +12V is supplying a good amount of amps. If it says something like 25A or lower, you've got a problem.

Also, the 290X recommends you use a 750W PSU, so if you do not have enough power the computer will not work.

The PSU seems to be perfectly fine..

I checked the wiring for 2 days and there doesn't seem to be a problem with that. Also when the R9 got delivered one of the taps on the box was broken off and had brown boxing sticking to it. It's weird, the box for the R9 isn't brown

Sounds like you need to contact whoever you bought the 290x from to get it RMA'd, you have quality components that work fine until you plug in that card.

Also the R9 290x does turn on and works perfectly. It just like the whole computer crashes and reboots itself when the cables are plugged into the R9. Is there a specific cable I need to use? I am currently using the PCI-E Cables for the R9. The R9 came with cables but not enough theres a 8 pin and a 6. It came with 2 6s
