Hi guys,
My radeon 6850 broke recently. currently planing on buying a gtx 980. so, my question is, would my i5 750 bottleneck the gpu? or would i get lower frame rates than having a more powerful cpu?

Solution
Yes it will, to about the same extend a fx 8350 would. You'll still get playable performance, but should probably rather get a gtx 970 and put the $200 saved towards a new cpu + mobo when skylake hits (in Q3 2015).

No, I don't think it will bottleneck. The performance of the Intel Core i5-750 is not that low but reasonably comparable with Intel Core i3 (2G+) family.

NO it won't be a problem,i have a i5 750 @4.184ghz and i can get 100fps plus on bf4 at 1080p, the difference between the newest i5's and the oldest i5's is the amount of electricity they use and the max overclock you can get out of them. It sounds like your only using a 60hz monitor so there is no chance of it being a bottleneck as long as you've got it overclocked to 4.0ghz you wont need a new processor until intel release something as difference to the i5's as they were to the Quad duos they replaced from the 775pin days, fuck it get yourself a solid state drive and a gtx 670 flash its bios to 1.3ghz and you'll be right for 1080p 60hz for ever.

4GHz on Lynnfield is entering extreme overclock territory and requires a good motherboard with a really high end air cooler or water cooler to deal with the heat generated by the large amount of voltage you need to pump into the chip to maintain stability at such a high clockspeed. I wouldn't pair a Lynnfield chip with a 980 unless you can achieve that extreme an overclock, and even then in CPU heavy games you would still be held back. Even with my i5 760 overclocked to 3.5GHz, my GTX 770 will still get held back in CPU heavy games like Grand Theft Auto V.

I agree. I'm using i5 750~clock to 4ghz and an R9 290. Holy cow the i5 750 is still alive, on 4ghz it goes above 80 % only on highly unoptimized games like Mafia 3 and still doesn't get held back.
