black screen after installing r9 270x

I installed r9 270x and when I turn on my PC it boots the gateway logo and then stays on black screen I installed on another PC and it works so card is fine but I can't get passed the black screen it also says 98% memory tested and stays stuck don't know what to do

Whether this is the cause of the problem or not may I ask what power supply you are using?
This can often cause problems with new graphics cards

Its a 500 watt but the other PC I installed it in is only 400 watts and it worked I would use that PC but the processor is crap

I did a bios update and now on start up it just black screen as before it would at least let me go into bios
