Dear Reader,

Please see the following self-build as it currently stands and provide me with your opinions towards any potential bottlenecks (i.e. motherboard?) in the system, in rank order, and why/with-what you would replace that item? With respect to prices of replacements, I'm looking to spend no more than approximately another £250/$400 ideally (unless you feel you can justify it further?).

CPU:
I7 2600 K
http://ark.intel.com/products/52214/Intel-Core-i7-2600K-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-3_80-GHz

Motherboard:
Gigabyte GA PH67A-DD3-B3
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3860#ov

RAM:
16 GB (4X) Crucial Dimm Desktop Memory Upgrade (240-pin,DDR3 PC3-10600,Cl=9,1.5v)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003GJL5U6?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00

GPU:
Sapphire Radeon 295X2 (single, not crossfired)

HD:
Solid State 250 GB Corsair (x2)

PSU:
EVGA Supernova 1200W Platinum
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-015-EA

OS:
Windows 8.1

Monitor:
BenQ Freesync XL2730Z 27" @144Hz
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-113-BQ

Case:
Thermaltake Level 10 GT
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004MQBQ1A?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00

Peripherals:
Intelli 3.0 (Forever!), Streetz Headphones, Wireless Logitech Keyboard.

Games generally played:
FPS: CSGO, Killing Floor 1&2, Sniper elite, various single player first person shooters at high end graphics detail, but most importantly 100+ frames per second
Modded: Skyrim & Oblivion - although I'm having lots of issues with the AMD card and the ENB series, I'm simply too far into the purchase now to turn back to Nvidia, annoyed about this but trying to work around it as best possible.
RTS/MMORPG: StarCraft, Diablo 3
Various old school games.

Gaming Experience Aim:
My aim is high-end graphics detail at 2K res with smoothness. I rank smoothness over graphics detail and I'll always take to a drop to ensure +100 FPS.

Kindest regards,
Sharples

Nothing is bottlenecking at all. It's best to wait for Intel Skylake before upgrading your CPU (a substantial upgrade). As for the GPU, it's more than capable of lasting until next year which is when completely new tech will release.

I thought the motherboard needed doing at least? I mean there aren't enough USB 3.0s for the entire case?

Agree with respect to the I7 2600K, comparison charts really don't show all that much difference for any reasonable price.

Many thanks.

Well, I am surprised. I thought the motherboard at least was going to get hammering.

I've never tried a CPU overclock, I'll eat my hat if there's not several very well written TH's articles on it, so I'll have a hunt through.

Sidetrack:
Sadly, the R295X2 has since started a whizzing/cracking sound and has been sent back to the factory for replacement.

The sound occurs when a.) you move your mouse (grinding/whizzing/high frequency crackle and then it worsens with b.) playing games that put it under any pressure.

When you put your finger on the GPU fan - this stops, ergo - the GPU fan has an issue?

TopicReturn:
Thank you all very much for your input. I'll leave it as it is for now and wait on new GPUs, CPUs to come out.
