Hello all,

I recently purchased a GTX 970 to replace my HD 7950. I've always used AMD, but this time wanted to try out Nvidia. That said, I've never had to deal with changing drivers from one vendor to another. I wanted to see if anyone could share their process for changing from one to the other to minimize conflict or any other issues I may run into. I would prefer to not have to do a complete reinstall of my system, but if that is the only solution I will go down that road.

Solution
just remove the amd driver as normal and pre amd instructions in the drivers footnotes reboot back on your old card and it should be back on the built in to windows default standard vga driver - if so shut down discharge the board and swap out the cards and reboot on your new card and it should be still on the windows default driver then go to NVidia and down load the NVidia driver to a file on your desktop and install it form there and reboot and all should be ready to go

No you don't need to reinstall your OS.

It is very easy:
1) Download Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU ) http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/display_driver_uninstaller_download.html but don't run it yet
2) Boot to safe mode in windows with old GPU
3) Run DDU and select install new graphics card option
4) Once DDU completes, it should shut down your system.
5) Now install new card and boot
6) Install latest nvidia drivers
7) Done.

'' Download Display Driver Uninstaller Run DDU and select install new graphics card option
4) Once DDU completes, it should shut down your system.''

I don't see that at amd / NVidia as a recommended way to uninstall/ install there drivers ?? why not do it right as amd / NVidia says the first time ???

this is where guys run into issues going out side of the proper manufactures instructions in all my years [17] I never had to resort to some 3ed party program to do a simple driver uninstall

do you think it knows whats better for amd / NVidia then amd or NVidia ?? [opinion]

this is why you need to read the release/ footnotes / directions first and insure things are done right the first time

Yes, I've never been a fan of those third party utilities. I'll definitely give the AMD/NVidia prescribed ways first.

ya, I just like to review the release / foot notes first incase theres something changed or added since the last time or driver I swapped like with NVidia, device manager is not a supported way to do there drivers but yet guys insist to uninstall them from that then cant understand why if something goes wrong . [states that right in the drivers notes with bold lettering ] then there here at toms asking how to fix or whats wrong

little things like that can cause you to have a bad time + grief
