Problem with Desktop Icons and Display

Hi there,

I'm having a minor, albeit annoying issue with my desktop. I'm not sure what's caused this as although i have made some changes and fiddled around with my computer recently nothing should really affect my actual desktop.

Ok, so basically, whats happening is, whenever i turn my PC on all my desktop icons and shortcuts are all placed in the left of my screen in two columns and muddled about. This is rather annoying considering i like to place my icons according to what they are for and what icons go next to eachother for ease of access (E.g, i have Skype next to Teamspeak, Word next to Adobe Reader, Steam next to Origin etc.)
And sometimes, but not all the time, when my pc turns on, only the upper left part of my monitor actually displays my computer screen, and i have to turn my monitor off an on again for it to display normally.

I was wondering if anyone has a clue as to what is going on, i have a few pictures i print screened to give you an example of what i mean.

What it looks like when i turn it on:
file:///media/removable/USB%20Drive/desktop%20how%20it%20looks%20when%20i%20turn%20it%20on.png

What it should look like:
file:///media/removable/USB%20Drive/desktop%20what%20it%20should%20look%20like.png

Example of what my monitor looks like sometimes (made in paint):
file:///media/removable/USB%20Drive/desktop%20what%20my%20monitor%20sometimes%20looks%20like%20when%20i%20turn%20it%20on.png

P.S, im guessing these pictures probably don't actually show up, considering you have to link Picture URL's and these pics are from my pictures folder. Hopefully you get the idea without the pictures.

Anyhelp will be greatly appreciated! :)
Kind regards,
Harry

You can set up a saved icon set, with this program (32 or 64 bit as your OS needs)-

If it's doing it with Auto Arrange turned off, try re-enabling it, reboot, then deselect it again and reboot again. I've read that will sometimes correct this behavior.

Yeah my auto-arrange is turned off. So it's a bit weird. i'll try your solution later as atm im downloading something.
Would you have any idea what might of potentially caused it? Only thing i've done really is install a new anti virus software recently (the 2015 version) and re-installed some games.

While it might not be your issue, it just seems to be a setting that Windows screws up from time to time, needing the "reset" I described. That worked for me a while back and I haven't had the issue again, luckily. Here's an article with a few more involved fixes, if the reset doesn't help, it could be something in your Registry has gotten out of whack-

Ok sure, i'll give it a shot later tonight and will read the article.
Hopefully it isnt the registry, i have made some changes to it recently but only things related to my dvd drive which wasn't getting detected by my computer.
