Gigabyt GTX 650 OC edition 1gb

I have never OC'd before but today I want to at least try and squeeze out a bit more FPS if I can.

I dont have the option to upgrade as I dont have the budget at the moment so I'm gonna make use of what I have.

First, an i still overclock it even if it's already OC edition? It may seem like a stupid question but I really dont know.

Second, I have the OC Guru II and the heaven (?) benchmark thingy ready.. I just don't know exactly where to begin.

And is it worth it to even OC this card at all if possible?

An in depth guide on this would be much appreciated.

Thank you

Overclocking your GPU is really easy to do and is really worth it on older or less powerfull graphics cards.

First thing you'll need is the overclocking software
http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=9&m=ASUS+GPU+Tweak+for+Graphics+cards

Now if you open the program after it installed you will see a slider for GPU Clock in MHz and Memory Clock in MHz. Try adding maybe 100MHz to the core clock.(and press apply) It should still run stable. You can also increase the memory clock although this won't affect performance as much as the core clock does.

Hi!

Can i try that with OC Guru as it is the software that came with my card or would it be easier on the one you recommended?
I will give it a shot when i wake up (4:45am right now)

I will update here as well. So if you can stick around and guide me throughout that would be great :)

Any more help is always welcome and appreciated dearly!

Thank you!

Hi,

Do I just go straight up and increase by 100mhz for the core clock? And then run tests to see for any artifacts?

If everything is all good after that do I even increase the memory clock?

How about the fan speed?

Update: Well I managed to add 110Mhz to the core clock without the gpu failing. Highest I added was 125Mhz but then I kept getting a pop up saying that the card stopped working or failed.. Something along those lines.

I tried with the Memory clock as well by starting off with increasing by 50Mhz but got the same pop up..

So in the end I put the Memory clock back to 0 and just settling with the 100Mhz to the core clock.

Fan speed was increased to 50% from auto the whole time.

If I encounter any errors any time after this then I'll just revert back to normal and forget about OCing.

Thanks

Could you make a printscrean about this error?

If your PC keeps running normal while this error occurs it seems a little stupid to me. Normally when i add to much to my core clock my PC just crashes, and i reboot and everything is back to normal. But your card should be easily capable of going atleast 100MHz higher on the core clock. And 50MHz on the memory clock should be no problem at all too. Although this won't increase performance all that much. (since 50MHz on a mem clock is almost nothing.)

Also don't worry about fanspeeds since these are regulated by the GPU itself, the higher the temperature the faster your fan will spin.

Using MSI Afterburner and Kombustor, I was able to overclock both my memory clock and core clock to about 120 Mhz each (ending up with a 1319 GPU clock and 2615 Memory lock with 1.1 volts and 65-68 C temp). However, I have a GTX 650 2GB (non-Ti) model so it might be a little different. Also, don't go higher than what I did 'cause when I added a little more to the core clock, artifacts appeared.

Still depends on the card, you could have 2 identical 650's and yet one could achieve higher clockspeeds.

However, this thread is nearly a year old and i don't think the OP will read this anyways.
