How to enter BIOS

So I built my pc yesterday, and I turned it on, it flashed the motherboard brand but whenever I press f12 to enter the bios the screen goes black.

Mobo:
Gigabyte 970A-DS3P

Hi

Does your PC boot up normally without going into bios?
Is the screen connected to integrated motherboard graphics or a graphics card?

Boot choice menu often f12 on dell , f11 or f8 on other brands
This not to get into bios but change from booting of hard drive to DVD drive or USB device for installing windows or repairing windows

Motherboard usually come with a driver disk with a PDF user guide which shows how to get into the bios or uefi bios

If no driver disk go to gigabyte website

thank you mike, however I have already tried all of the above. Maybe it's the keyboard
I will have to try a diff. one

If you're using a USB keyboard and mouse and you're trying to get to the BIOS Setup then they should be plugged into one of the four USB 2.0 ports. The USB 3.0 ports don't become active until their device driver is loaded by the OS.
